We're currently accepting applications for internship positions for the Falll 2020 school semester. Students accepted into our internship program will work alongside a number of units at the Austin Police Department over a 12-week period, including our District Representatives, Crime Scene Unit, Communications team, and Homicide Unit, among others. Interns must commit to 10 hours per week and will be compensated $11.00 per hour in addition to three college credit hours. In order to receive college credit, interns must be enrolled in a college or university that aligns with a field placement/internship course and must complete the full 12-week program. The Fall 2020 internship program will take place from September 6 - November 21. Graduates of the internship program will be placed at the top of the list for our next Regular Academy.

Duties during your internship will change with each new unit assignment. 


Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen (by birth or naturalized)
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be currently enrolled in a college or university in the Austin or Greater-Austin Area
  • Must have an interest in pursuing a career as an Austin Police Officer

Preference will be given to students who are studying Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Political Science or Criminal Justice. All internship applicants must complete and submit a 500-word essay with the application.
